Hub Description

Launched during the Lebanon Works @ Work event, the Green Gold Initiative breakout session brought together leading stakeholders dedicated to revitalizing Lebanon’s olive and olive oil sector. It showcased how coordinated national efforts can bridge the gap between policy and practice.

The session featured the active participation of H.E. Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, who expressed strong commitment to the session’s outcomes and pledged support for the next phase of implementation.

Key priorities now being advanced through ministerial engagement include:

  • - Reactivating the National Olive and Olive Oil Assembly as a coordination platform for stakeholders.
  • - Strengthening inter-ministerial collaboration to implement Geographical Indications (GIs) and Appellations of Origin, and achieve international recognition.
  • - Securing international accreditation for the National Olive Oil Laboratory, both for sensory and chemical testing.
  • - Developing a sustainable system for producing and distributing certified olive seedlings.
  • - Promoting Lebanese olive oil locally, especially in duty-free shops, restaurants, and hotels.

This session marked a pivotal moment in aligning national momentum and institutional backing for one of Lebanon’s most treasured agricultural sectors.
